The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive, structured level of care for eating disorders. It offers more support than traditional outpatient therapy while allowing patients to return home each evening, serving as a bridge between residential treatment and less intensive care.
PHP is ideal for patients who are medically stable, require daily structure to manage eating disorder behaviors, have a safe home environment, or are transitioning from higher levels of care.
PHP typically runs 5–7 days per week for 6–8 hours per day, including supervised meals and snacks for nutritional rehabilitation. Therapy combines individual and group sessions focusing on cognitive-behavioral and dialectical strategies, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, body image work, and nutritional counseling with a Registered Dietitian. Family therapy and weekly medical/psychiatric monitoring support overall stability.
The program helps patients establish healthy eating patterns, challenge thoughts and emotions that drive disordered behaviors, develop coping strategies for stress, and improve body image and self-esteem. Completion prepares patients to transition to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) while maintaining skills and stability.
